1968 Kawasaki A1-R 250cc, The first real 250 gp bike from Kawasaki. I
felt very lucky to find such a clean original example. This air cooled twin used
rotary valve induction, similar to the successful MZ from Eastern
Germany. The 5 speed gearbox is driven through a wet clutch, much like
the A-1 street bike it was developed from, in fact it also retained the
production oil injection system. The 4LS front brake was only fitted to
the racer. Unfortunately the original remote float Mikuni carbs were gone, a very rare part these days. The central float Mikunis that were fitted undoubtedly worked better.
53x56 bore and stroke, 8.1:1 compression, "More than 40HP@ 9500rpm" was advertised with 21.7ft/lbs of torque @ 8500rpm, Magneto ignition, Weight 240lbs
